Makeup on a plane? What can be brought?

I'm studying abroad in Rome for 3 months in the fall. I was curious about what makeup and beauty products (shampoo, contact lens solution, makeup remover) I'm allowed to bring on a plane, and in what quantities I can bring it in checked and carry on bags. Are restrictions only put on what you take in your carry on bags - can you bring bigger quantites if you put them in your carry on instead of your checked bag?
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I've never been out of the country or on a plane before!

Put it in your checked bag. Then there isn't a limit. But if you are going to be in Rome for 3 months, I'd say just buy the shampoo and easy stuff like that there. Its less you have to carry, and less weight you have to deal with.

Don't forget to keep your passport with you!
