Accessible web design for visually impaired - browser magnifier or dynamic CSS?

In the past, before browsers had the ability to magnify text on the screen, accessible design was done by having a control that could globally adjust the CSS definition of font sizes. I'm wondering whether this is necessary today, given the browsers' abilities to magnify text? I like the browser built-in magnification ability, but on some sites, the this feature doesn't seem to work properly and causes some text to run over other text. What's the current common wisdom on the proper way to make a site accessible to visually impaired people?

The reason it's still important is so that you can control the look of your website, so when text is enlarged you've tested to make sure it keeps structure. Here's a free and open source website template:

http://www.freewebplate.org/

that uses the dynamic CSS swap out to control font size. I'd recommend downloading it and just taking the parts you need and then customizing them.

Good Luck!

Thanks, TheWriter

I was amazed by the simpe minded and aggresive bashing witnessed 2 weeks ago by Republicans against a free press by the NY Times running an ad by moveon.org.

Fact is, the Times runs almost, every day, an ad espousing various political views. Today, FeedomWatch.Org placed a full page ad criticizing the visit by Iran's President. Will Democrats scream foul? I doubt it.

Republicans, too many, have become scary with their partisan and intimidating methods, it is a disgrace to democracy and a free press.

Some people hate freedom and America. They have such an inflated sense of self-entitlement that they think everyone must be forced or intimidated into agreeing with them. The NYT needs to show some backbone and not back down. I also find it ironic that cons are always complaining that government should not interfere with business. It's apparently OK to sell defective toys to children but printing an advertisement that they find disagreeable is just too far. They want an investigation! Puhlease!

I need to find the defintion and example.

Throw a stone into a lake: water waves move outward from the splash. Clap your hands: sound waves carry the noise all around. Switch on a lamp: light waves illuminate the room Water waves, sound waves, and light waves are very different from one another in important respects, but all have in common the basic properties of wave motion. A wave is a periodic disturbance -- a back and fourth change of some kind (of water height in the case of water waves of air pressure in the case of sound waves, of electric and magnetic fields in the case of light waves) that spreads out from a source and carries energy as it goes. Information, too, can be carried by waves; this is how sights and sounds reach us.

A wave is a periodic disturbance......... Do you need an example of each wave?

It takes almost 10 minutes to open,i cant read anything on the tool bar , desktop as they appear in small bits, the page has to be magnified to 200% to be visible and redeable.
-It tell me that the harddisk is full yet when i delete the files it recommends nothing changes.I thought for once that it was the screen that was at fault but when i connect to another monitor the same problem is there!its like everything has been congested together and looks very tiny in a funny way.
What the heck is going on here?

You might have changed your screen resolution. Try to see if you can set it back to your screen's native resolution, if it has changed.

driving up a hill after stopping for a minute?

Dear Sir,
Driving (up a hill )difficulty

During traffic on a slope(your driving direction is upwards),the car has to be stopped using conventional brake (suppose hand brake is inoperative)and pessing the clutch without shuting down the engine as expecting green light to illuminate (your foot is removed from acceleration pedal) .
What to do according to your driving practice to push the car upwards( as the car goes downwards)?

1-To release clutch pedal partially, and at the same time release brake pedal to depress acceleration pedal strongly .
or
2-to press by one foot both acceeration lightly plus brake while releasing clutch partially then press that foot at acceleration pedal
or
3-to press the clutch and brake by one foot ,then release it while pressing acceleration with the other foot,

I am driving well on flat areas, but up a slope after parking is fearing me from hitting the rear cars,I wait for your answer anxiously,
Regards

i used to drive a standard transmission years ago, and lived in a hilly area. the easiest and safest way to get going again is the following.
1: engage and hold the parking brake
2: release clutch until u feel it grab. be careful, too much clutch release will stall the engine.
3: add slight amount of gas and just a touch more clutch till u feel the car put slight pressure against the brake. at this time, u are in what is called the 'friction zone'. the friction zone is a grey area between the clutch fully open and fully closed. this also works on motorcycles in giving more stability and control at very low speeds.
4: release the parking brake at the same time u: release more clutch while adding gas.

do it right, and u'll come off the stop sign smooth and without stalling the engine. having the parking brake engaged eliminates the possibility of rolling backwards and possibly hitting another car. it just takes a little co-ordination, with practice, u'll have it down in no time.

What is the name for a handheld engineers magnifying glass?

Hi,
I know this may sound vague, but I wish to find a type of magnifying glass. It's like a handheld one: with a vertical handle, it has quite a small lens and has little torch to illuminate the object being seen. I've seen them before at an aerospace engineering factory, where technicians used them for inspecting the surfaces of metal components. If you can decipher this description and give me a name, it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
