Does hydrocortisone Acetate expire?

There is a date on my prescription, but it doesn't say whether it is the expiry date or the date I got it. (I cannot remember when I got it) I'm just wondering now if I can still use it.

This article states the shelf life is 5 years, but this refers to storage in a pharmacy. If you have previously used this prescription, and if it is a topical (skin) ointment or cream, it may be contaminated.

If there is not an expiration date on the tube or the box, you may not want to use this prescription. At best, it will be ineffective; at worst it will be contaminated. It may be better to contact your physician for a refill.
